Mortgage Affordability Calculator
Estimate a practical home-price range from income, debts, down payment, interest rate, taxes, insurance, HOA and a debt-to-income limit.
Calculation breakdown
How mortgage affordability is estimated
This calculator starts with gross monthly income and your chosen maximum debt-to-income ratio. Existing monthly debts are subtracted from that limit. It then solves for a home price whose estimated principal, interest, property tax, insurance and HOA fit inside the remaining housing budget.
What to do with the result
Treat the estimate as a ceiling to investigate, not a spending target. A lower purchase price can leave more room for repairs, utilities, savings and changes in taxes or insurance.
